Book Review: If I Stay by Gayle Forman

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

SYNOPSIS:
In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck...

A sophisticated, layered, and heart-achingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make, and the ultimate choice Mia commands.

My Thoughts:
I had heard so many great things about this book, as well as the second one, so obviously it was on my "up next" list. And then I saw it on Library 2 Go, and checked out the audiobook. I hadn't planned on listening to the audiobook, I actually already had it on ebook. But when I saw that it was only about 5 hours. I thought "that's great! I can listen to this and do random stuff on my blog." and exactly that's what I did. And it was perfect!

Now, onto what I actually thought of the book. I thought the writing was well done, everything was there. It made sense. The characters were good, they were developed, as well as continued to grow. We had some back story, which is always helpful. But the way it all played out was a little weird. She's like outside her body, walking around. All over the hospital and listening to her family and the doctors. It was pretty scary to think that that could be you.

I loved the fact that I randomly chose to listen to the audiobook, which was read by Kirsten Potter. It was a great experience, I know it would have been very different had I read the text, I would've been very confused at times. She does a lot of switching back and forth between past and present. And I think it helped a lot to hear the emotion in her voice. And the way she said certain sentences. And expressing the emotion Mia felt. It was amazing. It helped a lot in keeping the story straight, as I mentioned before, there's a lot of remembering and flash backs. I loved her voice. It seemed to fit Mia very well. The age appropriate-ness and the tone. I couldn't imagine it being any better.

All in all, I liked the book, I didn't love it. I listened to this a few weeks ago and it's one of those books that after it sinks in and you really sit there and think about it.. The more you realize that you actually loved it! It probably wouldve only gotten 3 stars if i'd read it in text. But the audiobook was absolutely fabulous. So, I gave it 4 stars. And I will be listening to Where She Went very soon and obviously on audiobook.

The Poets Korner: Lighter

Lighter

I need a lighter to set my soul on fire
Throw my bones upon the pyre
And watch me slowly burn

I have one desire
To see you love me more

To see you being drained
Of everyone before
To hear your deaf lips whisper
Things only I can hear

To have my fading shadow
Be your only fear

Lying in your arms
No longer meant for me
The safety of your touch
Pretends to set me free.

Upcoming Movies I'm Excited For

Lately there have been so many movies coming out, and a lot of them look really good! There was a time not too far back, where it seemed like everything coming out was boring or just not my taste. And it's finally picking up, so I thought I'd make a list of the movies I'm most excited for in the upcoming months :)

**Update: The Big Wedding's release date has been changed to April 26, 2013**

Crazy Book Buying Obsessions

This tag was created by ReadingWithJack as a YouTube thing. But I stole it! You can watch the original video here

1) Do you have an obsession with buying books?
Well of course I do!
2) When, where and how often do you buy your books? Do you go with anyone else or just by yourself?
I am always shopping for books. Always keeping my eye out for deals. I like to buy online, Barnes and Noble, my library has a bookstore in the back, and local book stores. I have a friend that I like to drag along with me, but sometimes I go by myself. Just depends on how bad I want to go shopping.
3) What kind of things attract you to books when browsing them? Is there a specific genre of books you automatically go and look at?
I always look in the YA, fiction and erotica sections. I usually look at the covers. If it looks interesting, then I will be more likely to pick it up and read the synopsis. But also, the title!
4) Do you prefer to buy new, used or a mixture of both?
Both! I'm all about the deals though. And I love used books as long as they are in really good condition.
5) How much are you willing to spend on books each month?
It just depends.
6) Have you ever gone on any 'book-buying bans'?
No. And I don't think I would make it. But I might give it a try one day.
7) How long does it take you to get around to reading recently bought books?
Depends on how much I really want to read it. If it just came out, then asap. Or if it sounds really, really good, also asap. If I'm only getting it because it's a deal or I eventually want to read it, then it could be a long, long time.
8) Do you prefer to buy a lot of shorter, cheaper books or just a few longer, more expensive ones?
I like to buy bigger books. The thicker they are, the happier I am.
9) Anything else to say about these awesome obsessions?
Want to make a donation to my book buying fund?? :)
 10) Who are you tagging?
Since I wasn't actually tagged... And I just decided to do it for fun... I tag everyone! I think it's fun. And very informative for readers.

Have a great day! :)

Movie Review: 21 Jump Street

"The only thing getting blown

tonight is their cover."

Release Dates:
Theaters: March 16, 2012
DVD: June 26, 2012

Cast:
-Johnny Depp (uncredited cameo)
-Peter DeLuise (uncredited cameo)

Plot Summary:
In high school, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) was a dork and Jenko (Channing Tatum) was the popular jock. After graduation, both of them joined the police force and ended up as partners riding bicycles in the city park. Since they are young and look like high school students, they are assigned to an undercover unit to infiltrate a drug ring that is supplying high school students synthetic drugs.

Favorite Parts:
-The party.
-When they're high.
-The real slim shady.
-Their first arrest.
-When they're in the bathroom stall together.
-Trying the whole "cop slide" across the car.

My Thoughts:
Since the original show was made before I was born I didn't watch it, but I had heard about it. Anyways, I thought this movie was really good. It was really funny. And of course there was a little bit of romance. Some action too -duh -they're cops, and they have guns and apparently science lessons are very helpful :) They were enemies at first, then became best friends, that always makes for a good story. It was pretty good to see Johnny Depp & Peter DeLuise in there for a few minutes, considering they were in the original. Also, Jonah Hill helped write the story for it :)

MSMC #1: Office Space

This is just a little thing I created for myself as a sort of challenge. I was pretty sheltered as a kid and fortunately haven't seen most of all the "must see" movies that everyone always talk about. I say fortunately because I can now watch them as an adult and most likely enjoy and understand them better :) With that said, I've started making my list, but I need some help. If there are some movies that you think are must see, then please leave a comment and tell me.

I was looking at IMDB's Top 250 movies of all time list. I kind of used this list as a guideline for what most people consider "classic" or "must see" movies. I didn't list everything on there that I haven't seen, because that would be a lot of movies. But here are the ones people seem to talk about most that I have not seen.

In no particular order:
-The Godfather
-Harry Potter #4 & on.
-Pulp Fiction
-Schindler's List
-Any of The Lord of the Rings
-Any of the Star Wars
-Goodfellas
-The Matrix
-Any of the Indiana Jones
-Casablanca
-Citizen Kane
-A Clockwork Orange
-The Breakfast Club
-Reservoir Dogs
-Some Like It Hot
-2001: A Space Odyssey
-Pan's Labyrinth
-Die Hard
-The Departed
-Jaws
-Snatch
-The Sixth Sense
-Hotel Rwanda
-Scarface
-The Wizard of Oz
-Donnie Darko
-V for Vendetta
-Million Dollar Baby
-Stand by Me
-A Beautiful Mind
-The Truman Show

So my plan for Must See Movie Monday -- I will watch one of them and then talk about it. And tell you all if I thought it was truly epic or not. And my first pick was Office Space

Comedic tale of company workers who hate their jobs and decide to rebel against their greedy boss.

Release Dates:
Theaters: Feb 19, 1999
DVD: Aug 31, 2000

Cast:

Favorite Parts:
-The O face.
-Michael Bolton rapping.
-All of the incidents with the printer.
-Every other part of the movie.

My Thoughts:
So YES! This movie is completely and utterly hilarious! It is totally epic! I have no idea why I never watched this movie, but I am so glad I did. I was thinking about it for days (I watched it last week & just now came up with the idea for these posts) and I'm still thinking about it. I almost want to watch it right now. One thing that made it funny was to see how things were so different. And this was only in '99! But their glasses and clothes. Wow. Hilarious.

Have you seen Office Space?
Do you consider it a "must see" movie?
Did you think it was funny? Stupid? Both?
Or are you like I was and haven't seen it yet? You should!

And for the people that think they know Office Space like the back of their hand. I found this online quiz, I thought it was fun. I didn't do too well though, considering I've only seen it once. Enjoy!

The Poets Korner: Forgive Me

Forgive Me

Forgive me love
For I have sinned
I let my guard down
And let you in

I gave you all my entirety
I'm left with nothing
But the shell of me
I feel it still
Your heart beats for me

But no longer will you
Play keeps with me
Discarded like an old rag doll
You let me slip
You let me fall.

Swoon Thursday: Bared to You

Swoon Thursday #3!

Swoon Thursday

Swoon Thursday is a HOT meme hosted by YA Bound.

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished,
tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your
skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in
the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on
your blog! We want to know :)

This week my swoon comes from Bared to You.

So, here it is:
"Romance isn't in my repertoire,
Eva. But a thousand ways to make
you come are. Let me show you."
The car slowed to a halt. He
withdrew the key from the panel
and the doors opened.
I backed into the corner and
shooed him out with a flick of
my wrist. "I'm really not interested."
"We'll discuss." Cross caught me
by the elbow and gently, but insistently,
urged me out.
I went along because I liked
the charge I got from being around
him and because I was curious to
see what he had to say when
afforded more than five minutes
of my time.
He was buzzed through the security
door so quickly there was no need
for him to break stride. The pretty
redhead at the reception desk pushed
hastily to her feet, about to impart
some information until he shook his
head impatiently. Her mouth snapped
shut and she stared at me as we
passed at a brisk pace, her eyes wide.

Hope you enjoyed!
